Four Wheel Trailer Project

Why is this project needed?
In 2008 the Malawi Trust acquired a two wheel single axle trailer to be towed by a tractor, the purchase of both of which were funded jointly by grants from Tusk Trust, the Rufford Foundation and the Nyika-Vwaza (UK) Trust. Both the tractor and trailer have done sterling work transporting staff to and from work sites, ferrying a multiplicity of goods and equipment, and also building materials including bridge beams averaging 700kgs each. However, these loads have placed an enormous strain on the front end connector to the tractor which requires frequent welding. It has become evident that a sturdier, four wheel two axle flatbed trailer would be better suited to the rugged conditions of the parks and the heavy loads that have to be transported. Furthermore, a flatbed trailer will enable loading to take place when not attached to the tractor so speeding up operations.

How will this project be implemented?
The Malawi Trust will purchase locally within Malawi a robust second hand four wheel, two axle flatbed trailer suitable for being towed by the tractor and man enough for work within the two Parks. In order to minimise costs, the Malawi Trust will sell the existing two wheel single axle trailer setting the proceeds against the cost of the replacement trailer.
