Why is this project needed?
Nyika-Vwaza News is our biannual newsletter (Spring and Autumn), produced in the UK and circulated to over 1,000 addressees world wide. It is the principal means by which the work, achievements and needs of the Trusts are communicated to our supporters. Besides current affairs, the newsletters also carry articles of historical reference to the development of the parks and the northern region of Malawi in which the Parks are located. The first issue was in Autumn 2005 and the most recent, the twelfth, was in Spring 2011. All past issues are archived on our website www.nyika-vwaza-trust.org and are accessible by clicking “News” then “Newsletter”. The newsletters thus also act as a valuable historical record of events in the Nyika National Park and in the Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve.
By commercial standards the production costs are modest as the compilation of the newsletters is done entirely voluntarily by two trustees, Miss Jane Gallacher (Editor) and Mr. Mike Budgen (IT) who regularly bear some of the outgoings personally. Costs are also minimised by encouraging recipients to receive the newsletter by email but many – especially our older supporters – prefer paper copies. Notwithstanding these cost-saving measures, the growth in distribution numbers and the increase in production costs (paper, envelopes, postage, compiling and printing) now make heavy demands upon the limited annual income of the UK Trust of which we are anxious to divest ourselves.
How will this project be implemented?
We intend to continue with the existing tried, tested and proved method of production that works well but we now seek sponsorship of the annual production costs. We will be pleased to acknowledge our sponsor in every issue of the newsletter.
Our request
We request sponsorship of £2,000 per annum for three to five years.
