Why is this project needed?
Maintenance of the complex of earth roads within the Nyika National Park, and also the roads within the Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve, is an essential annual requirement, especially after the season of Rains. The Parks’ authorities and the Malawi Trust staff are dependent upon good roads for law enforcement (i.e anti-poaching) and conservation. Tourists too rely upon roads.
How will this project be implemented?
After each season of Rains, the Malawi Trust staff grade the roads with a tractor-towed grader, clear the road margins and remove detritus from the lateral drains to create discrete off-road channels for excess water run-off.
