Direction Signs Project

Why is this project needed?
The road signs in both the Nyika National Park and the Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve have been installed by the Trust. These trademark green and yellow direction and mileage signs are visible landmarks that help people, especially visitors, to navigate safely and confidently around the parks. There are 60 sign centres in the parks and some 300 chiselled and painted wooden signboards. The signboards in the Nyika are attached to stone plinths, whilst those in the Vwaza are fixed to wooden poles. Inevitably the paint and woodwork weathers and in Vwaza elephants damage the signs. They require regular repair.

How will this project be implemented?
Regular inspection of the signs and repair or renew as and when necessary. In Vwaza, construct stronger, more solid vertical posts planted deep in the ground with rock stabilizers. In addition, in Nyika build three new stone plinths in 2011.
